We seek dedicated people who believe they have the skills and ambition to succeed at NREL to apply for this role.Job DescriptionEnvironment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESHQ) staff help NREL develop safe operating procedures, mitigate ergonomic issues, navigate environmental guidelines, manage quality, and ensure a safe and healthy work environment. ESHQ has an opening for an Issues Management Professional to support Issues Management programs within the office and have responsibility for implementing the employee concerns program; tracking and trending of issues data; and supporting the investigation of suspect/counterfeit items (S/CI) per the Issues Management Program.

ResponsibilitiesThis role applies a high degree of technical and communication skills to solve complex problems while supporting implementation of assigned responsibilities across the Laboratory. The successful candidate can expect to:

• Develop and deliver program-related training to Lab-wide audiences through targeted communications and presentation materials, including complex charts, for recurring management review meetings.
• Provide support and quality control of issues management programs. Maintain and improve the issues management program through benchmarking, self-assessments, and process improvement. Coordinate, prepare, and submit required reports according to established deadlines (e.g., ISO assessment, DOE surveillances, self-assessments, observational monitoring, etc.).
• Routinely collaborate with ESHQ staff, researchers, support staff, all levels of NREL management, and with the local DOE field office and EERE/DOE headquarters.
• Support the development of ESHQ work products including policies, lab-level procedures, local desk procedures, and implementation tools, program documents, and program-related training for NREL staff.
• Provide support and guidance within ESHQ and assigned organizations across the laboratory including: interpretation of policies, regulatory and/or governmental regulations, and agency guidelines; risk assessment; process analysis, development and improvement; data collection, monitoring, trending and analysis; ISO accreditation/certification; corrective action management, including root cause analysis; and extent of condition/cause determination.
• Represent NREL in external forums.
• Support special projects and initiatives led by the ESHQ Office as requested.

General duties also include support of cross-organizational teams to understand events and other issues, including data gathering activities; assist in creating lessons learned reports and S/CI determination reports; assist in performing causal analysis as needed, including apparent and root cause analysis; participating in extent of condition/cause determinations as needed; assists in technical writing of reports and proofreading; and assist with developing corrective actions to reduce risk. Provides support and guidance to responsible workers in tracking and managing S/CI reports and sharing lessons learned across the laboratory and into DOE systems. Maintain awareness of issue related trends. Identify processes, including safe work processes, needing to be established or improved and facilitates process development and improvement activities. Lead the processes in the identification, development, and dissemination of best practices and lessons learned.

• Knowledge and application of technical standards, principles, theories and techniques. Frequent application of industry concepts and principles.
• Working knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs.

Basic QualificationsRelevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD or equivalent relevant education/experience. Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.
