Full disclosure: I love Sportsters, and I've had three 883's. NO, they are not good bikes for beginners, and here's why: They weigh 575 pounds. That is very, very heavy for a first bike.
As such, 300 to 500 pounds is the typical weight range of most cruiser bikes. However, larger power cruisers, like Harley-Davidsons, can weigh a bit more. The heaviest cruisers are designed for long-distance travel and are known as touring bikes.
For smaller riders or beginners, it's easy to find a bike between 300 and 400 pounds with a low seat height and desirable handling. For bigger riders or those wanting a touring bike or one which can keep a passenger comfortable on long rides, there are bikes up to 1,000 pounds, too.
It's a 230 kilo motorcycle, but handles nimbly. Yes skinny guys can enjoy it too.

Let me say, the Sportster in any flavour - be it Harley Sportster 883 or 1200, is not a small bike. They are a pretty porky piece of metal to be moving about. If you've ever tried pushing one around a parking lot, you'll know the average weight of the typical 260kg 883 is pretty porky.
Bike: An acceptable term for almost any motorcycle , which is also often called a ride, sled, beast, the old lady, sweetheart, my precious, That Broken Down Old Piece of … and so on. Usage: “Sweet ride. How long have you owned it?” Big twin: Any large displacement Harley-Davidson.
Tires: Motorcycles only have two tires with very small contact patches that provide the traction connecting us to the road. Tires have a finite weight-bearing limit at proper inflation. If you overload your bike, you're overloading your tires. This can lead to excessive wear, overheating, and possible blowouts.
The weight limit for most bikes is around 350-450 lbs.
You can get anything from a 125cc (cubic centimeter) engine to something more than 2,000cc. For beginner motorcycle riders, the recommended engine is 500cc to 600cc. The lower the cc figure, the easier the bike will handle, and the more forgiving it will be to the inevitable mistakes that new riders make.
A lighter motorcycle is typically better efficient in terms of power output delivery, fuel efficiency and handling (latter aspect is subject to a whole lot of other factors though). Heavier motorcycles are often thought of as more “stable” at highway speeds, but that is usually just a notion.
A lighter motorcycle will be easier to handle, balance and maneuver, especially if you're a novice or smaller rider, but what if you're a heavy or tall rider? A general recommendation for new riders is a 250 or 300cc bike, but a 600cc bike would be powerful enough to support a heavy rider and therefore a better choice.
