Predicting Each Vikings' Starter's Madden NFL 25 Rating: Edges and Tackles Edition (2)

We’re back with another edition predicting the ratings of the projected Vikings starters on the future-releasing Madden NFL 25 from EA Sports. We’ve done offensive skill positions and the secondary unit, so this time, it’s the guys on the edges on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

If you’d like a quick refresher on how Madden ratings work, check out this article where I ranked the skill positions after explaining how EA comes to their decisions on the numerical values they assign to players.

RT Brian O’Neill – 85OVR

Madden NFL 24 End of Season Rating: 86OVR

O’Neill has consistently been one of the best all-around right tackles in football over the last couple of seasons, fetching a Madden rating of at least an 83 overall or greater in three straight years.

He hasn’t exactly been as good as he once was since the Achilles injury he suffered at Lambeau Field (drink) towards the end of the 2022 season, so EA may feel the need to move him a point down from his final Madden 24 rating of 86 down to an 85.

This would still put him among the best at his position in the game, considering there currently aren’t a whole ton of elite-level right tackles in the NFL.

LT Christian Darrisaw – 93OVR

Madden NFL 24 End of Season Rating: 90OVR

The cycle of Madden NFL 23 through Madden NFL 24 was quite kind to former Virginia Tech Hokie Christian Darrisaw, as his rating would jump from a 74 overall at the end of the year in Madden 23 all the way up to a 90 overall at the end of Madden 24.

This was well deserved, of course. Darrisaw proved through 2022 and 2023 that the Vikings had found their franchise left tackle when they selected him with the 23rd overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft after a trade down with the New York Jets.

He has produced PFF grades and pressure allowance numbers up there with the best that the NFL has to offer, and this is the perfect opportunity for Madden to give him his flowers and jump him into the mid-90s.

EDGE Jonathan Greenard – 82OVR

Madden NFL 24 End of Season Rating: 78OVR

If you looked at the contract Greenard signed on the opening day of free agency earlier this off-season, you would think he would garner a rating that would fall at least in the mid-80s. This isn’t the case, however, as the former Houston Texan has never even eclipsed the 80 overall mark.

It is understandable, considering Greenard isn’t exactly a household name, given his late bloom and slight injury history. The contract Minnesota gave him looks gaudy but is actually quite team-friendly. It is a deal based on projection, as he looks to have found his footing as an above-average pass-rusher, and Minnesota is looking to cash in on him at the right time.

EDGE Andrew Van Ginkel – 84OVR

Madden NFL 24 End of Season Rating: 84OVR

Another Vikings free agency signing earlier this off-season, Andrew Van Ginkel’s Madden NFL 24 end-of-season rating is right in line with what you might expect Greenard’s would’ve been, but that isn’t to say Van Ginkel doesn’t deserve that number.

Last year’s installment of Madden was Van Ginkel’s first time garnering a rating of 80 overall or above, hovering in the mid-70s for most of his professional career. It was earned, as he was one of the most efficient pass-rushers in football on a per-snap basis in lieu of the injured Jaelen Phillips in Miami.

He’s one of those guys that I believe EA won’t fiddle with too much when it comes to overall rating or individual ratings whatsoever, so I have him remaining the same overall for the launch of Madden 25.

EDGE Dallas Turner – 77OVR

Predicting Each Vikings' Starter's Madden NFL 25 Rating: Edges and Tackles Edition (7)

In the first installment of this series, I mentioned that EA Sports usually has the consensus top players in that year’s draft in the mid-to-high 70s, and unlike my prediction of J.J. McCarthy’s inaugural rating, that is exactly the case here.

In most cases, if Dallas Turner wasn’t a draft analyst’s top defensive prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft, they had him in the top three at the very least. Even fellow edge-setter Jonathan Greenard said he was made in a “factory”. For that reason, EA is likely to give him a big-time introductory rating in his first Madden appearance. They will likely also be giving him a big-time development trait in the game’s franchise mode, meaning as years pass in the mode, he will become one of the best pass-rushers in your league.
