Friends of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle claimed that shortly after Princess Lilibet's birth on June 4, 2021, Queen Elizabeth II was introduced to her granddaughter over a video call, but that claim was furiously rebuked.

The 95-year-old at the time was said to have been "sent over the edge" by briefings made by friends of the Duke and duch*ess of Sussex who spoke to US journalists following Lilibet's birth.

A Palace insider told the The Mail on Sunday in a brutal six-word-dig: "No video call has taken place."

The source claimed "misleading briefings" were given to US journalists shortly after the birth of the couple's daughter. The source added: "This is about whether or not what is being reported is an accurate version of what actually happened."

Seventh in line to the British throne, Lilibet was named after her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, who was affectionately known as Lilibet, which was a private nickname.

The late Queen was also shocked to hear that Harry had supposedly contacted her first to ask permission to use Lilibet, the monarch's nickname, the Mail on Sunday reported.

The couple's spokesman told the New York Post he had spoken to his grandmother first and revealed his wish to name his first daughter in her honour. They added that if The Queen had not approved Harry would not have used the name.

However, a Palace source told the BBC the conversation was "a telling, not an asking". This prompted a legal letter from Harry and Meghan's lawyers, which branded the story "defamatory" and Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the claims at the time.

Lilibet was the childhood nickname of Queen Elizabeth II, who called herself Lilibet when she was a toddler because she had difficulty pronouncing her full name.

Lili's middle name, Diana, is a tribute to Prince Harry's late mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales. Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William and Kate, also has Diana as one of her middle names, as well as Elizabeth.
